What is a Hope Sender? I am a little Hope Sender, I bring you hope and love. My job is to cheer you up As I flutter above. When you feel down put me in your pocket Or next to your heart. I will help you find your courage When you and your family are apart. A Hope Sender must have certain qualities to be considered an official Hope Sender.  It must be a little creature with: wings for... fluttering, hovering, soaring, and gliding their way to your heart. a smile to... share joy and happiness. a face to... express a reminder to have hope. color to... explode with expression a back view... so that you know someone, "has your back." Why were Hope Senders created? Hope Senders were originally created for a Green Beret unit that was serving in Afghanistan after 9/11.   We were writing to Green Beret Jeff Hart after our class found out he was deployed to Afghanistan.  Students wanted to extend their appreciation to Jeff's entire unit and give them a symbol of hope and support as they performed their heroic duties away from home and families.  Knowing that the Green Beret unit was busy and didn't have a lot of room for items we decided to laminate little creatures that could be tied to something or put in a pocket as they went about their tasks.  The Hope Sender became a symbol of hope and a reminder that others notice the receiver's efforts toward peace. What does it mean for students to award a Hope Sender?

It means so much to the receivers that they sometimes cry!  It means so much to us that we do it with all our might.  We do our best so it plants itself in their heart.

Our Hope Senders mean hope, faith, courage, and love to people in need and around the world.

It teaches us that we are not alone on this planet.  We can touch our future and others' futures with these winged Hope Senders. We need to think about everyone because we are all neighbors.

Hope Senders mean we care about other people and not just our relatives.  So people cry because of happiness.

Hope Senders show we care, that there is always someone out there that understands you! They make you content!

Hope Senders definitely have minds of their own.  Hundreds have taken flight out of our classroom.  They have traveled all over the world and are continuing their search for librarians, doctors, friends, mothers, artists, authors, and other inspirational leaders who need a little tap on the shoulder to say:
