Switching from School to Home Internet

1. For the following to work, I think you must change two configurations first.

2. Go into the Apple Menu, Control Panels and choose AppleTalk.

3. Go to File, Configurations.

4. Click once on Default, then click on Rename and call it School. (If you do not have a default setting, go to step 7.) Quit AppleTalk.

5. Go into the Apple Menu, Control Panels and choose TCP/IP.

6. Repeat steps three and four above.

7. Go into the Apple Menu and choose Location Manager.

8.   In the Location Manager go to File and choose New Location...

9.   In the dialog box that appears, type Home or the name you wish to use, then click Save.

10.   Back at the Location Manager, if it isn't already open, click on the Edit Locations triangle to open that section of the dialog box.

11.   Choose your new location for Edit Location, then check AppleTalk & TCP/IP.

12.   Click on Edit after you have selected/checked AppleTalk & TCP/IP.

13.   In the next dialog box, choose Open AppleTalk.

14.   Set your AppleTalk settings from Airport (or from Ethernet) to Remote Only. Then go to File, Quit or keys Apple and Q.

15.   Now click on Open TCP/IP.

16.                Change the settings from Airport (or Ethernet Built-in) to PPP and change Using DHCP Server to Using PPP Server.

17.                Back in the Location Manager, choose your Home location as your current location (it will reset the settings). Then quit the Location Manager (File, Quit or Apple Q).

18.                You are now ready to go online. Plug in the phone cord to your modem slot, and then go to the Apple Menu, Control Panels, Remote Access. As a registered user, type in the name and password you use at home, then the phone number you dial into. Click on Connect and test it. It should look like the picture once it connects (go ahead and go to the Finder to hide the Remote Access).

19. Repeat the process to setup your school location so that you can use the Location Manager to switch from home to school.

20. Once you are all ready, start up the Location Manager. Click on the Edit Locations triangle to close that up because you don’t need it anymore. From now on, just change the location next to Current Location.
