AppleShare Servers

This is a step-by-step guide to connecting to an AppleShare File Server. This is useful for accessing software and work stored on a central server.
NOTE: To open accounts for your class, fill out a tech request. If you or your students are working on an open document, do not work on it off the server.  Save a copy on the hard drive (to be trashed at the end of the period) then save it back to the file server (save as, choose your folder, then replace).  If you work on an open document off the server and the network goes down your document will be lost!

1.   Pull down the Apple Menu, find "Chooser" and release.

2.   Click on the AppleShare icon in the upper left-hand of the

Chooser window.

3. Click on Cronus (not Prometheus) to connect.

4. The connect box will come up.

5. Type in your name and password and then click OK.

6. Click on the drive that has your files stored on it. It should be Cronus.

Note: Don't click on the box on the right side of the window. Doing so will make it so that you will be asked to sign in to Cronus every time you start your computer. Make sure students know this so they don't check that box.

7.   Close the Chooser window. On the desktop you will find the

server icon.

You will have access to folders that are assigned to you.

8.   You will have access to Staff, open it and you'll find a folderwith your name.  Students only have access to Students.  They will find folders with every letter in the alphabet. The first letter in student's first name is where they can find their individual folder.  (For example, Joe Shmoe would find his folder within the J folder.)

9.   If you are signing in for the first time, you get to pick your password.  Just enter the password you want next to password and it will ask you to confirm it.  Retype it.

10.       Kids have had a big problem forgetting their passwords but they need to have a password.  Remind kids to use something no one knows but that THEY CAN remember!

11.       Note:  If a student, or you, forgets his/her password then you will need to email Chris Martin asking him delete the password.  Once Chris does that, the student can go in and choose another password.  If you or a student wants to change your password at any time and you still remember the old one, just click on Change Password& before signing in.
