Using NCS Mentor

1.    Open the NCS Mentor for Washington 7 folder by double clicking on the  icon.

2.    Start the program by double clicking on the NCS Mentor for Washington 7  icon (the pencil).

3.    Once the program starts you will be prompted to login by entering a User ID and Password.

Click on New ID& to enter your User ID.  Entering a Password is optional, if you don’t need one or don’t want one, just click on NO when prompted to enter a password.

You can enter ID information for more than one user so that you and your students can both use NCS Mentor.

4.    When logging in for the first time, a License Agreement dialogue box

will appear.  Click on

5.    The next dialogue box allows you to select the Content Area you wish to try.


We will be starting with Reading, double click on the reading book.

6. Use the tabs at the top of the page to use the program.

·      Introduction tells you about NCS Mentor.

·      Background has more information.

·      EALR has the EALR's for the Content Area.

·      General Guides is where we'll actually start - this tab gives information on the types of WASL questions in the program.

·      Set Selection is where you select the question to work with.  Selecting a question will bring up other tabs.

·     
Anchor Papers shows scored answer samples.

·      Scoring is where you or your students get to score.

·      Summary is where you see how well you did scoring.

7.    Click on the General Guides tab to read through the problem

descriptions.

8.    Once you are ready, click on the Set Selection tab to score.

9.    Clicking on a question folder brings up a number of anchor papers to get an idea of how to score.  Once you read through the anchor papers, click on the Scoring tab to score your own.

10.         On the following page you will see how to maneuver through the anchor and scoring sections.  Take your own notes if unclear.
