Server and Network Specifications
The Chimacum LAN (Local Area Network) runs on a 100Base-FX fiber optic back bone. The MDF (Main Distribution Frame) is located in the High School. Each on campus building has it’s own IDF (Intermediate Distribution Frame) which feeds back to the MDF in the High School. There is approximately 12 miles of optic fiber cable throughout the campus. Each Distribution Frame supplies CAT 5 network wiring for it’s area. The network handles both computer and telephone data. There is approximately 50 miles of CAT 5 wiring installed.Providing services for this LAN are many dedicated server computers. Here is a list of what they do and what type of machines they are. Note: Not all servers appear on this list.
