Dear Chimacum Families,
We are about 30 days away from launching Skyward Qmlativ (Q), our new student information system.
Q will provide families with a more modern and easier-to-use experience for accessing important school information, including grades, attendance, messages, and other student information. This transition also supports our ongoing responsibility to protect student and family privacy and maintain strong security around sensitive information.
We have spent the past year preparing, testing, and training for this transition, and we are excited to be getting close to launch.

Like the leaves turning, the flocks Canada geese flying, and the air getting cooler in the valley, the Great Shakeout comes around each year as a chance for our community to practice earthquake preparedness.
The Great Shakeout is next week, October 15 at 10:15am in all of our schools. At that time, there will be an announcement in all buildings to shelter (stay where you are in class) and to “drop, cover, and hold on” which is the standard protocol and safest way to stay safe in the event of an earthquake. At this time, we will be temporally splitting Route 103 and adding its stops to our remaining routes.
This change will start on Monday, October 5th , 2026. Once we have more drivers available, we will return to the original route structure.
The new routes are updated on our website: www.csd49.org click on Bus Transportation at the top of the screen. Please review the updated routes for revised times and stops.
Driver shortages are occurring across the nation, causing many school districts to make difficult decisions, including canceling routes altogether. This can leave families without transportation for their students and create challenges with work schedules and other family responsibilities.
At Chimacum School District, we are committed to our families and students. Our transportation team is working together to ensure that every student has the opportunity to ride a bus to and from school.

We are partnering with the YMCA of the Olympic Peninsula to launch a new after-school childcare program here at Chimacum Creek Primary School! This partnership will expand opportunities for our families and provide a high-quality, engaging, and supportive environment for students after the school day, five days a week!
The YMCA will be at Cowboy Day today to answer any questions and enroll interested families. Visit them at Chimacum Creek Primary between 2-3:30 PM or Chimacum Elementary School between 3:30-5:00 PM.

Washington drivers illegally passed stopped school buses 960 times in just one day during this year’s statewide survey. Besides putting kids at risk, illegally passing a stopped school bus comes with a mandatory $500 fine.
So, as we head back to school:
⭐ Slow your roll.
⭐ Keep an eye out for kids.
⭐ When the bus lights flash red, stop and stay stopped.
⭐ Leave a little extra time for your morning commute.
Let’s make our first week back a safe one. Be patient. Be alert. Be a good neighbor out there on the trail.
